In this webinar, we will discuss SWOT analysis and how it can help teachers evaluate and adapt teaching materials effectively. By examining both authentic and inauthentic materials, teachers can gain awareness of their benefits and drawbacks. While authentic materials are engaging and reflect real-world language, they can present challenges such as complexity or unpredictability. In contrast, inauthentic materials are easier to control but may lack practical relevance. We will also address the challenges teachers face when using authentic materials or needing to adapt 'on-the-spot' resources during lessons. By understanding these issues, teachers can facilitate learning more effectively and better meet the needs of their learners. Speaker: Farnaz Memari Farnaz is a CELTA and DELTA-certified teacher with 26 years of experience teaching diverse learners, including General English for adults, IELTS, Business English, ESP, MBA university students, and exam preparation. Recently, she has taken on the challenge of teaching Teens and YLE and has also become a Cambridge Speaking Examiner. With around 15 years of teacher training experience, Farnaz brings creativity to her teaching, drawing on her passion for photography, painting, and handicrafts to facilitate effective learning. Currently, she is working at IH Madrid. Fee : FREE! Date: Sunday (yes, I know!) 16th Feb 2025 @ 16h00 CET (3pm UK time) To register : https://www.iatefl.org/events/648

SIETAR France invites you to join us on Wednesday, December 11 from 6pm to 7:30pm CET for “Did COVID, AI and Geopolitics Kill Global People Skills and Networks?” with Gabor Holch Countless senior managers, executives and entrepreneurs around the world made an effort to “get back to normal” after the disruptions of the COVID19 pandemic. But as we shall discuss in this webinar, that “normal” will not return. 20+ year China resident and intercultural leadership coach Gabor Holch will share reasons why businesses, from major multinationals to startups, must discover new ways to connect with opportunity, funding and talent across continents and cultures; how technology shortened distances but added previously unknown challenges to cross-cultural communication and collaboration; and how political interference adds to the difficulties of the global mindsets that we need more than ever. Gabor will present cautionary and exemplary stories from his executive coaching experience and help participants reflect on their own examples.
TESOL FRANCE PARIS SALON type WORKSHOP: March 4th: 2-5pm Beyond listening comprehension – Helping learners become better listeners Listening comprehension is the most challenging skill for many adult learners. At the same time, they are confronted with the need to understand native and non-native speakers in a variety of situations in their professional context and it’s often a source of stress. In this workshop, we will explore how to get to listening comprehension by first learning how to listen and training the ear to hear the sounds of English. Join TESOL France members, Sue Thomas and Katherine Krieger, for an interactive workshop for trainers/coaches of adult professionals in one-on-one sessions or very small groups (or aiming to work in this sector). This workshop is about sharing knowledge and experience from working with adults in different professional sectors, focusing on listening skills. You will gain practical tips and insights and be able to share your own practices. https://forms.gle/mbku8esJqmdQHDK6A

The annual TESOL France Colloquium (online this year of course) is coming up and it's time to register. https://www.tesol-france.org/en/pages/173/colloquium-2020.html We highly recommend that you make the most of this opportunity to connect with other trainers and reflect on your teaching. Remember that quality certifications require all trainers, whether employees, subcontractors or independents, to invest in their own professional development. Even if you are counting on TLN's new solution going forward you will still have to demonstrate that you are doing some regular professional development such as this.
